Phillips Park will shine brightly this week as the Aurora Festival of Lights turns the power switch on for the month-long outdoor holiday light display. Volunteers will welcome carloads of spectators to the display of Santas, reindeers, candy canes, Old Man Winter, lighted trees and more from Friday until Dec. 27.

Senior Mackenzie Powers believes that in addition to talent and hard work, attitude is a big reason why Rosary has made it a habit of winning the IHSA girls state swimming championship. The Beads took their fourth straight title Saturday, easily outdistancing the competition with 177 points to 129 for second-place host New Trier. Fenwick won third place.

Aurora loses its Arby's landmark
Arby's ­-- its big hat and all -- is gone from 809 N. Lake St. in Aurora, where it served up roast beef sandwiches for just more than 40 years. The fast-food restaurant north of Illinois Avenue was a local landmark with its large lit sign that boasted of its delicious roast beef.
