Business center appoints aide to new entrepreneurs

November 3, 2009

The Elgin Community College Illinois Small Business Development Center has selected Marcelo Alvarez to counsel individuals seeking to become entrepreneurs.

Alvarez, who is Spanish-speaking, also will advise Latinos who own businesses in the Elgin area on how to take their businesses to the next level.

"Marcelo is a valuable asset to the ILSBDC and the clients we assist in establishing and growing their own businesses," ILSBDC director Kriss Knowles said. "With the high unemployment rate in the Elgin area and a large Hispanic population, there is a need for our services."

Alvarez has more than 20 years of experience in marketing, management and business development. He owns his own business as a franchisee of The Entrepreneur's Source.

He is available by appointment on Mondays from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Downtown Neighborhood Association, 2 Douglas Ave., Elgin. For more information, call 847-214-7488.
