Let's hear it for the boys

October 30, 2009

I realize I spend way more time finding deals for women's clothes than I do on men's clothes. Go figure, I'm a woman. I am spending the much-needed time now to rectify that situation. Guys clothes are so much easier to buy than women's. So you don't have to put in a lot of time, you just need to know where to go.

I went to Danada Square at the corner of Butterfield and Naperville roads.

T.J. Maxx had a ton of great deals for men's clothes. The Calvin Klein jacket I found is great for the fall. It's marked $59.99 as compared to $120. It's 100 percent polyester so no need to dry clean. (1)

There is a huge selection of ties. I don't know why anyone would buy a tie in a department store. These run from $9.99 to $14.99. Some of the brands are Nicole Miller, Brooks Brothers, Jones New York and Geoffrey Beene. (3) The Perry Ellis shirt I found would be great with jeans. It's $19.99 instead of more than $40. (4)

The Polo Jeans 1/4-zip sweater would be nice for the holidays or for a night out. It's $29.99 instead of $60. (5) The Chaps buttoned-down collared shirt is only $12.99 instead of $42.50. It's at T.J. Maxx because it's from a past season. It's a red striped shirt; who really cares if it's from a past season? (6)

Everyone needs a good pair of khakis. You can dress them up or down. The Chaps flat front pants that I found are only $14.99.

The American Eagle jacket I found was a steal -- $29.99 instead of $129.50. It's a wool blend with a zip and button front. Oh, and if you are looking for some comfy PJ pants, these are only $9.99. (2)

Old Navy also has some deals for guys. You can get khakis here for $25 instead of $29.50. Go here after T.J. Maxx though. Jeans are on sale for $25. You can find loose, boot cut, painter and straight fits. They are $25.

Sweaters are on sale for $25. They have V-neck and 1/4-zip. And load up on these graphic thermals. They are only $15.

Shopper's tip: Instead of wandering aimlessly through a mall, have a game plan. You will spend less time and money if you plan out a shopping trip. And isn't our time worth money?

Next week: Crate and Barrel outlet.
