Woman charged in 8-month-old's death

November 3, 2009

A 44-year-old Carpentersville woman has been charged in connection with the death of an 8-month-old infant boy in April who died of hypothermia when she allegedly left him unattended.

Deanna L. Williams, of the 3800 block of Parsons Road, was indicted by a Kane County grand jury Friday of one count of involuntary manslaughter, two felony counts of endangering the life or health of a child, and two misdemeanor counts of endangering the life or health of a child.

According to the indictment, Williams was baby sitting the child when she left him unattended on April 22, which resulted in his death from hyperthermia, or overheating.

Carpentersville police arrested Williams Friday afternoon. She remained in custody Monday at the Kane County Jail, where she was being held in lieu of 100,000 bail. Her initial court appearance was set for Nov. 5 in front of Associate Judge James C. Hallock.

If convicted on the most serious charge, Williams could face up to 10 years in prison.
