Briefs: Youth football raffle fundraiser

The Elgin Youth Football and Cheer League will host a turkey raffle fundraiser from 7 to 11 p.m. Saturday at the Douglas Street Sports Bar and Grill, 231 Douglas Ave., Elgin. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase on site and cost $1 for two numbers. Turkeys, hams and steaks, and other prizes donated by area businesses and the city of Elgin will be raffled throughout the night. A free food buffet will be provided from 7 to 9 p.m. The nonprofit league is comprised of about 400 children, about a quarter of whom come from low- income families and need financial support so they can participate.

West Dundee: VFW turkey parties
VFW Post 2298, 117 S. First St., West Dundee, will host a turkey party tonight and Saturday. Doors open at 6 p.m.; first call is at 7 p.m. For more information, call 847-428-9006.
Elgin: Holiday Craft and Antique Show
McNeil Mansion, at 162 S. State St., Elgin, will play host to a Holiday Craft and Antique Show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Nov. 13, through Sunday, Nov. 15, and Friday, Nov. 20, through Sunday, Nov. 22. Admission is $3 and includes entry into a drawing for door prizes. The show will feature a variety of hand-crafted items, jewelry, knitted and felted accessories, small antiques and collectibles, vintage furniture, holiday decor, handmade candles and soaps, baked goods and more. Elgin: ESO to fete Abe's 200th birthday
The Elgin Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Robert Hanson, will present the Midwest premiere of "Letters from Lincoln," a new symphonic poem for baritone and orchestra by American composer Michael Daughtery, during this weekend's Schubert Unfinished Symphony performance. Tickets start at $15. Performance times are 8 p.m. Saturday and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Hemmens Cultural Center in downtown Elgin. Algonquin: Candy buy-back for troops
All Smiles Dental, in collaboration with NASA Education and the Army National Guard will host a Halloween candy buy-back 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at its office, 1452 Merchant Drive. Children will receive $1 for every pound of candy donated. The candy, along with toothbrushes, toothpaste and floss will be sent to the troops overseas.
