No bond reduction for babysitter charged in death
Bail will remain at $100,000 for a Carpentersville babysitter charged in connection with the death of an 8-month-old boy left under a blanket for several hours. Kane County Circuit Court Associate Judge T. Jordan Gallagher Thursday denied a request to have the bail of Deanna L. Williams, 44, of the 3800 block of Parsons Road, reduced to $25,000.

No one was hurt in any of three accidents involving Sleepy Hollow patrol cars since the first of the year, but for a police department that patrols about 40 miles of road, three cop car-involved accidents in 10 months stands out.

Elgin cab robberies may be coincidence
Police said Tuesday that the robbery of one cab driver and the attempted robbery of another that took place just hours apart in the downtown area may have been just a coincidence.

Woman charged in 8-month-old's death
A 44-year-old Carpentersville woman has been charged in connection with the death of an 8-month-old infant boy in April who died of hypothermia when she allegedly left him unattended.

Elgin man convicted of assaulting boys
A 32-year-old Elgin man was convicted Monday of the sexual assault of two young boys. Michael J. Jackson of the 400 block of Addison Street was convicted by Circuit Judge Timothy Sheldon of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault stemming from contact Jackson had with the victims, whom he knew, from June 2004 to December 2006.

$1M bond for teen held in Halloween shooting
A 15-year-old boy was held on $1 million bond Monday after being charged with attempted murder for his alleged role in a gang-related Halloween night shooting in Streamwood.

ID thefts targeted DeKalb County banks
DeKalb County Sheriff's Police said they have broken up what Sheriff Roger Scott describes as "a major identity-theft ring" that stole between $50,000 and $100,000 from the bank accounts of a dozen county residents, and may have stolen hundreds of thousands of dollars from victims throughout the state.

Elgin man convicted for robbing pizza delivery man
A northwest suburban man faces up to 60 years in prison after being convicted of beating and robbing a pizza delivery man in 2008, a crime which netted him $20. John H. Darrington, 25, of Elgin was found guilty of one count of robbery Friday.

Police: Don't try this at home
Tip of the day: "If you're a criminal, and you're going to do a crime, don't do it at home." That tip comes courtesy of Cmdr. Tim Bosshart after Carpentersville police arrested three men Wednesday for allegedly hauling a man out of his car and into the garage of a house at 2114 Tepee Ave. to rob him. One of the alleged robbers lives in that house.
East Dundee Teen sentenced for arson in Elgin
The last of three teens charged with setting a fire that badly damaged a west side Elgin residence in March has been sentenced to 10 years in prison. Salvatore Riso, 18, East Dundee, pled guilty Thursday to one felony count of residential arson.

Police Report: LITH man dead in Wisconsin
A Lake in the Hills man who was reported missing Monday evening was found dead Wednesday in a Wisconsin lake, authorities said.

Sexual assault suspect sought by Elgin police
Police have asked the for the public's help in finding a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman last week on the city's west side. Police said the incident occurred in the 1600 block of Larkin Avenue around 3 a.m. Friday. A man reportedly armed with a sharp instrument approached the victim from behind and forced her into his vehicle before driving a short distance where the sexual assault took place.
Michigan man rearrested in homicide
Thanks to the power of police computer databases, a man arrested in DeKalb County Friday on a driving violation and released by a judge on Saturday was rearrested Monday on a charge that he killed his roommate in Michigan.

Daneille Hatfield, 20, of Streamwood, died Friday from injuries she sustained in an Oct. 19 accident in Kane County.

Elginite guilty of trying to buy 1 kilo of cocaine
Sentencing is scheduled Dec. 9 for an Elgin man convicted Friday of attempting to buy a large amount of cocaine from an undercover police officer. James E. Dumas, 36, was found guilty of one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, both felonies.

Carpentersville police have received two reports in the past week of children being approached or followed by men they did not know. On Tuesday, a 9-year-old boy reported that a man approached him and offered him a ride to school, said Police Commander Tim Bosshart.

Drug charges: Deonta A. Giles, 25, of Chicago, was arrested Thursday on charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Giles' bail was set at $90,000. He is to appear in court 9 a.m. Nov. 4.

An Elgin man arrested in 2003 after he allegedly invited a 9-year-old girl into the men's bathroom with him was arrested again Wednesday and charged with attempting to solicit a child for sexual purposes, police report.

Archery suspect dies in jail
A man accused of shooting a woman in the face with a compound bow last month died Monday after a reported fall in his DeKalb County Jail cell, authorities said. Gary Aspengren, 64, of 202 S. King St., Cortland, was charged on Sept. 28 with aggravated battery involving great bodily harm, aggravated battery involving a weapon, armed violence and aggravated domestic battery.

No charges in Algonquin school bus accident
Update: Police Tuesday said no charges would be filed in the case of second-grade boy who was run over by a school bus as students were being dropped off outside Neubert Elementary School here.

First Amendment rights or "tastes great, less filling," were just two of them. The protestors weren't quite sure which cause they were backing but that didn't stop them from clashing with officers in riot gear.

A rainy, dark sky enveloped the area Thursday morning as more than two dozen Waste Management truck drivers sat in classroom-like desks at their office on the city's far southeast side, learning about another way to help clean up the streets. It was 6:30 a.m., and the day already had gotten off to a late start for most of the drivers. But it also signified the beginning of a new role each one has taken on while riding up and down Elgin's residential streets — that of a neighborhood watch.

The Carpentersville Police Department is investigating a shooting death that occurred at about 12:34 a.m. Saturday at 126 Amarillo Drive.
Police Report: Vehicle damaged
The driver's side window and headlight on a vehicle parked in the 600 block of Columbia Drive in Elgin were shattered by an unknown object, according to a report filed Thursday evening.

Update: Five people were sent to the hospital Thursday night after breathing in fumes from three home-use insecticide "bug bombs" set off inside an apartment building at 1422 Larkin Ave., authorities said.
