Briefs: Sight Night Parade to step off in Bartlett

The Bartlett Lions Club will host its fifth annual Sight Night Illuminated Halloween Parade at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The parade's participants will stage on Railroad Avenue east of Main Street and in the area of the new Metra parking lots. The parade will travel westbound on Railroad Avenue to Main Street and then southbound on Main to Devon Avenue. The motorized parade participants then will continue eastbound on Devon to Berteau Avenue and then northbound to Railroad Avenue. Police warn that certain streets along the route will be closed and traffic will be diverted during this time. Police also remind spectators to exercise caution when traveling to and from the parade, since the street lights along the parade route will be turned off prior to the start of the parade.

DeKalb: Longer hours at Senior Center
Family Service Agency's Senior Service Center is changing its hours to better accommodate the DeKalb County's seniors. Starting Nov. 5, the center will be open on Thursday nights. "One of our goals with this change," Director Mary Overbey said, "is to be more available to seniors who work or volunteer during the day." The center, at 330 Grove St. in DeKalb, is a place for seniors to go and socialize with their peers, as well as a place to receive community services such as AARP tax assistance. The many activities vary from card games to computer lessons. The new hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. Elgin: Parent workshop at Ellis MS on Nov. 7
There will be a Parent University Workshop at Ellis Middle School, 225 S. Liberty St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 7. Elgin: Noland sponsor of recall measure
Last week, state legislators approved a measure sponsored by state Sen. Michael Noland, D-Elgin, which paves the way for Illinois voters to recall a sitting governor. Noland sponsored House Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment 31 (HJRCA 31), which provides a way for the voters to recall the governor by petition and for the election of a successor governor. The measure must get at least 60 percent of the vote in a November 2010 statewide referendum to become law.
Crystal Lake: ABBA tribute at Raue Center
ABBA Mania, a tribute to the Swedish pop supergroup from the 1970s, plays the Raue Center at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The Northwest Community Youth Choir will join ABBA Mania on stage for a few songs.
