Girls volleyball: Hampshire improved to 25-2 (6-2 Big Northern East) with a 25-15, 25-22 victory over Harvard Tuesday. The win was revenge for the Whip-Purs after losing to Harvard September 25th. And the revenge was sweet. The Whip-Purs not only improved their record to 25-2 and 6-2 in Big Northern Conference East Division play, but they also got back at the Hornets, who handed the Whips their first loss of the year on Sept. 25.

Boys soccer: Top-seeded and recently crowned Big Northern Conference East Division champion Harvard knows it can't get caught looking past any of its potential opponents when the Westminster Christian Class 1A Regional begins today with a pair of opening-round matches.

Girls volleyball: Burlington Central clinched at least a tie for the crown with a 25-19, 25-17 victory over visiting Marengo. The Rockets improved to 8-0 in the BNC East, two games ahead of Hampshire with two games to play.

Girls volleyball roundup: St. Charles East moved a step closer to clinching the Upstate Eight Conference girls volleyball title with a 25-11, 25-17 victory over Bartlett on Tuesday.

In brief: Larkin clinched the school's first-ever Upstate Eight Conference title in boys soccer with a 2-1 victory over host St. Charles North on Tuesday.

Bears: Devin Hester hasn't changed. The problem is with us, the media and fans who await his every return as if it carries the fulfillment of a messianic prophecy. Hester is a flesh-and-blood return man, not a paranormal phenomena. He's without peer at his craft, but human nonetheless.

NFL: Roy Williams headed home to Texas on Tuesday in the NFL's biggest trade before the deadline, giving the struggling Dallas Cowboys another proven receiver opposite Terrell Owens.

Bulls: After sluggish starts in each of the first two exhibition games, the Bulls looked like they were ready to work from the opening tip Tuesday night at the United Center. But the team's best first quarter so far fizzled quickly, and the Bulls dropped to 0-3 with a 96-86 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

In brief: They fluttered in and rocketed out: Three more homers sent sailing over the Green Monster to help Evan Longoria and the Tampa Bay Rays blow out Boston for the second straight game and move within one win of their first AL pennant.
