Cool nights bring fall colors early
For most of us, warm, sunny days and cool nights sound just about right when fall rolls around. It turns out that's when the trees are suiting up for some of their best work. "Fall colors are coming out right now, and they're going to last until the first week of November," said Kathy Casstevens, marketing director for Starved Rock Lodge and Conference Center.

A-maze your friends at this twisted puzzle
A Corn Maze and activity area at Meadowlands Farm is open rain or shine during the Scarecrow Fest in Newark this weekend (9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday and on October weekends for the rest of the month). A one-time admission charge to all the activities, including the maze, is $4 (children age 2 and younger are free). Activities include hay pyramid, corn box, bean bag toss, pumpkin bowling, corn shelling and grinding, pumpkin slingshot, broom toss, turkey in the straw, and wagon rides until dusk. A flashlight is required for after-dark walks in the corn maze.
Fall Moon Fest promotes unity via arts
A showcase of traditional and modern Chinese performing arts and culture of the Chinese people will take place Saturday in Naperville. The Dong Fang Chinese Performing Arts Association will present its annual Golden Fall Moon Festival performance at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Pfeiffer Hall at North Central College, 310 E. Benton Ave.

AURORA -- Despite construction delays that forced it to be rerouted and rescheduled, the storied Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race will still be rolling on the river.
In its 25th year, Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl, the nationally-recognized dance troupe from Aurora, is dedicated to instilling pride and cultural awareness in Hispanic youth while preserving the cultural music and dance of the Mexican people. In addition, the dance ensemble introduces other people to Mexico's rich heritage. Ballet Folklorico Quetzalcoatl will perform on Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Paramount Theatre.
