AURORA -- A Wisconsin-based, Fortune 500 financial investment company is shutting its office in Aurora.
Fiserv, at 444 Commerce St., intends to close its facility possibly by March 2010.
In an e-mail sent Wednesday, Fiserv spokesman Judy DeRango Wicks said employees were notified last month of the shutdown, "so that they may have several months to plan for the closure."
"While difficult, the decision to close this office was driven by numerous factors including our long-term business needs," she said.
According to an October Illinois Department of Labor report, Fiserv notified the state on Oct. 27 of a mass layoff that would affect 290 workers at the Aurora site. An initial layoff date is set for March 1, 2010.
The company did not elaborate on the types of jobs affected by the closing. The state report, however, describes the Aurora office as a credit bureau.
The Aurora facility is also listed as CheckFree Electronic Commerce, as well as CheckFree Corporation, which was the name of the company until Fiserv acquired CheckFree in December 2007, according to the Fiserv Web site.
In 2008, Fiserv reported $4.7 billion in total revenue. It has 20,000 employees in 250 locations worldwide.
