Charges expected in shooting
Six men were in custody Friday afternoon but no one had yet been charged in a shooting and car chase that took place earlier Friday. No one was injured in the shooting, Police Lt. Paul Nelson said. Nelson said charges were expected to be approved against at least one person Friday night.

Cops monitoring Route 31/I-88 tollway ramp
An Illinois State Police roadside safety check detail will monitor the Route 31 ramp on Interstate 88 in Aurora tonight into Sunday morning.

1 hurt as acetylene tanks explode in Aurora
Aurora firefighters responded to an acetylene explosion around 4 p.m. at Cyl-Tec Inc.'s warehouse, 950 Industrial Drive, in the Landmark Industrial Park off Sullivan Road. Fire officials said, there were about 100 acetylene cylinders involved in the explosion, which did roughly $15,000 in damage to the facility. One Cyl-Tec employee was injured.

Man gets prison for Lisle bank robbery
An Aurora man has been sentenced to 12 years and seven months in federal prison for the 2008 robbery of a bank in Lisle. Keith D. Kelly, 38, drew that penalty for the Dec. 8, 2008, holdup of the Bank of America branch at 4707 Center St. He was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo in Chicago.

Judges hear appeal of Luciano conviction
Kane County prosecutors were worried convictions would be hard to come by in the Operation First Degree Burn murder trials. The results since the 2007 gang sweep have been mixed, but prosecutors did win several key cases. Now those convictions are being tested again on appeal.

Two held in hammer attack at car wash
Two men from Aurora remained Monday night in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton, accused of attacking a man with a hammer at a Naperville car wash. Solonius H. Caldwell, 36, and Cameron D. Delaney, 18, face trial on felony charges, according to records on file in DuPage County Circuit Court.

Prosecutors: Gunshot wound self-inflicted
An Aurora man who reported to police that he was wounded in a drive-by shooting actually shot himself, Kane County prosecutors said.

Joliet man guilty in slaying of Aurora mom
Saying that blood stains were the crucial evidence, Judge Timothy Sheldon Thursday found Hezekiah Hamilton guilty of murdering the 25-year-old mother of his children, Brenetta Beck, of Aurora. Beck, 25, was found stabbed to death shortly before 6 a.m. Oct. 30, 2007, in the bathroom of her home. She had been stabbed 54 times.

Ex-coach: 40 months for sex with student
The former owner of a cheerleading school, who pleaded guilty last year to sexually abusing an underage student, was sentenced Thursday to 40 months in prison. Bradley Abrahams began serving his sentence immediately, according to DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office spokesman Paul Darrah.

Zinke guilty of throwing girlfriend off bridge
A Kane County jury Wednesday found an Aurora man guilty of trying to murder his ex-girlfriend by throwing her off a bridge in downtown Aurora into the Fox River. Prosecutors said John Zinke, 35, attacked the woman after she threatened to leave him in November 2008.

Several Aurora police officers testified Tuesday morning about evidence collection in the investigation of the murder of a young Aurora mother.

Experts cite DNA match in Aurora woman's murder
Forensic scientists testified Tuesday that blood collected from the ex-boyfriend of a murdered Aurora woman was a DNA match for the victim. Hezekiah Hamilton, 26, of Joliet, is on trial in Kane County Court for the murder of 25-year-old Brenetta Beck, the mother of his two children.

Aurora to hire fingerprint analysts
Aldermen on Tuesday gave their stamp of approval to hire two fingerprint analysts as contract employees to speed up investigations.

Vehicle burglary charge lands pair in jail
An Aurora couple remained Thursday night in DuPage County Jail in Wheaton, following what police said was a foiled attempt to break into a vehicle parked outside a Naperville business. Bonds of $5,000 and $3,000, respectively, were set for Lindsey D. McDowell, 26, and Valentin Yepez.

Auroran guilty in attack on ex-girlfriend
An Aurora man has been convicted of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's house and attacking her last year. Calvin R. Meeks, 39, of the 2300 block of Chandler Court in Aurora, was found guilty this week by a Kane County jury of home invasion, residential burglary and unlawful restraint, all felonies.

DUI with tot in car earns prison time
A Chicago man has been sent to prison for driving drunk while a young child was in his vehicle as he raced along Interstate 88 near Sugar Grove last summer. Johnny E. Rodgers, 58, of the 5200 block of West School Street, was sentenced this week to 37 months in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated DUI, a Class 2 felony.

An Aurora man faces up to 30 years in prison after being convicted Tuesday of severely injuring a former neighbor with a machete-type knife last summer. Nicholas A. Worley, 25, was convicted by a jury of one count of armed violence, a Class X felony, according to the Kane County State's Attorney's office.

For the second time in less than a decade, police have recovered large amounts of drugs from the home of a 69-year-old Aurora man. At 6 p.m. Thursday, officers seized more than 500 grams of marijuana and 150 hydrocone pills and more than $7,500 cash, according to authorities.
